You were watching TV from the comfort of your sofa and, trying to find the remote to change channels, you inadvertently pressed buttons. By doing so, unwittingly, you activated the subtitles, and now – what a bummer! – you don’t know how to turn them off, as they automatically appear in every content you watch.
How do you say? Is this exactly the case? Don’t worry: I’m here today to help you solve this little technological glitch and tell you how to get the subtitles off your TV . In the next chapters of this guide, in fact, I will explain how to succeed in your intent by showing you how to proceed through the main solutions that can be implemented on traditional Smart TVs and TVs.
Having said that, if you are actually ready to get started and get to the heart of my tutorial, I suggest you take a few minutes of free time, in order to carefully read the instructions that I will give you in the next paragraphs of this guide: put them in act and you will certainly succeed in the intent that you have proposed. At this point, all I have to do is wish you a good read and, in this case, a good view too!

How to remove subtitles from Smart TV
If you wonder how to remove subtitles from the TV and you have a Smart TV , here’s how you can achieve your goal by acting through the settings menu and in the main apps for watching streaming content, such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video .
TV settings
The simplest method to remove subtitles on a Smart TV is to act through the settings of the same. The problem, however, is that each TV has a differently structured settings panel and, therefore, it would not be possible for me to provide you with detailed information for all models. What I will do, therefore, is to explain to you how to proceed on the TV in my possession, a model of LG Smart TV , hoping that this will be enough for you to replicate the same steps on your TV (it should not be difficult, as the menus often look alike. , although they are not the same).
So let’s get to the heart of the matter: to remove the subtitles from the LG TV just act through the Settings menu : to access it, press the button with the symbol of a gear located on the remote control and choose the item All settings ( the symbol of the dots ) located in the lower right corner.
Once this is done, you can see the Smart TV Settings menu on the screen. Then press on the item Channels ( the symbol of an antenna ) and then on the words Subtitles language . Finally, in the overlay menu at the top right, relating to the subtitle settings, put the check mark on the wording Disable , to disable the previously activated subtitles.
If you have any doubts or problems, if you also have an LG branded TV, read my guide on how to remove subtitles from LG TV .
App
Were you not watching a program broadcast by traditional TV broadcasters, but a content on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video using the relevant application for Smart TV, and would like to know how to disable subtitles in the latter? No problem.
In the case of Netflix , if you have already started playing content in the service app , use the remote control to press the button with a cartoon symbol located at the top left of the TV screen.
Then, in the menu that is shown to you, put the check mark on the item Disabled that you can see in correspondence with the item Subtitles .
If, on the other hand, you have selected the multimedia content to be played but you have not yet started playing it, click on the Audio and subtitles menu item that is shown as an overlay, then place the check mark on the item Disabled in the Subtitles menu .
Even using the Amazon Prime Video app for Smart TV you have the option to disable subtitles before or while playing content.
In the first case, select the content to play, then click on the Subtitles menu item located at the top. Finally, put the check mark on the words Subtitles disabled and that’s it.
If, on the other hand, you have already started multimedia playback, to disable subtitles, press the central button on the remote control, in order to open the multimedia playback bar.
Once this is done, press on the ST item located in the lower right corner and, finally, select the wording Disable subtitles and that’s it.
How to remove subtitles from non-Smart TV
You don’t have a Smart TV, but a traditional TV ? No problem: even in this case you can disable subtitles, acting via the Teletext or, if you are using an external device for streaming content, via the latter.
As with Smart TVs, even for traditional TVs it is impossible to provide universal instructions, as each model has its own functioning. In the next few lines, therefore, I will show you how to remove subtitles from Toshiba TV (that is, the type of TV I have), knowing that the indications should be easily replicable on other brands of TVs.
Teletext
Have you inadvertently activated subtitles for the hearing impaired while watching a program broadcast on Rai or Mediaset channels ? In this case, you must proceed using Teletext or Mediavideo , i.e. the historic Teletext service , which offers various subtitling services for some entertainment products such as films and fiction, including subtitles for the deaf and English subtitles.
To deactivate this option, take the TV remote control (or the decoder remote control) in your hand and enter the number 100 . In this way, the Teletext , which was previously only present in overlay for the activation of subtitles, will return to full screen and you will be redirected to page 100 , that is the initial page of Teletext or Mediavideo .
By doing so, the subtitles will be disabled. At this point, to close Teletext or Mediavideo and go back to watching the program of your interest without superimposed writing, press the TXT or TEXT button on the remote control of the TV or on that of the decoder, in order to close the Teletext .
External devices
In the event that you have started playing a multimedia content using external transmission devices, such as Chromecast , and you have activated subtitles incorrectly, you must act through the app for Android or iOS / iPadOS that transmits the audio stream- video to TV.
Having said that, if you have started the transmission of a content through the Netflix app ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ), start the app in question on your smartphone or tablet and press on the playback bar located at the bottom.
Then, to deactivate the subtitles, presses on the cartoon icon . Finally, in the menu that is shown to you, put the check mark on the item Disabled , corresponding to the Subtitles tab .
The same goes if you have started multimedia playback through the Amazon Prime Video app ( Android / iOS / iPadOS ): start the app in question, then press the multimedia playback bar that is shown to you below.
Now, to manage the settings related to subtitles, tap on the icon (…) located in the lower right corner and, in the menu that is shown to you, click on the item Subtitles . Finally, put the check mark on the item Disabled , to disable them.
If, on the other hand, you want to disable subtitles on TV, while playing multimedia content started via Amazon Fire TV Stick , you must proceed directly through the options of the app you use on the device, using the supplied remote control or the remote app for smartphones.
