6 ways to watch TV with headphones

Do you enjoy watching TV with minimal sound when everyone is asleep, or do you prefer to block the external sound when watching your favorite shows? Then you can watch TV with headphones and there are both wireless or wired headphones available. Connecting headphones is feasible no matter what TV brand you own. Here are several ways to watch TV with headphones:

1. Bluetooth headphones

Nowadays, most smart TVs have built-in Bluetooth features, so it’s best to check and see if your TV already has one. If it does, fine, just buy a pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones and pair them with your TV.

The typical range for standard Bluetooth is about 10 meters without any interference. High-quality Bluetooth headphones have features such as noise reduction, sound amplification, etc. to enhance the incoming audio signal.

To pair a Bluetooth headset with the TV, just turn on the headphones, and then go to TV settings> Audio> Audio output> Speaker list.

2. Directly connected headphones

TV connection with a directly connected headphone is very reliable, but not so convenient. However, if you are lucky, your TV has a 3.5 mm headphone jack. If not, it has the RCA output, which means you need an RCA-to-3.5mm adapter and connect your headphones.

The challenge is for convenience and you will also need a long cord from your TV to where you will be sitting. You must be careful when using this connection form to avoid pulling or tripping over the cable.

It’s not the best method out there, but it gets the job done, especially if your TV screen is small and you can sit close to it.

Tip: If the headphone cord is not long enough for your enjoyment, you can purchase a headphone extension cable to help.

3. Bluetooth transmitter/adapter

However, a Bluetooth transmitter will be useful if your TV does not have Bluetooth support. The transmitter must be connected to the TV and then you can easily pair it with your headphones. They are generally also cheap with a price range of SEK 200 – 500.

Bluetooth adapters are available in online stores but are careful when buying as not all of them are suitable for TV. Get one with optical audio such as TOSLink or SPDIF input and optical outputs as they provide quality connectivity and stable audio.
