Indeed, in the course of this tutorial, I will teach you how to remove subtitles from your Philips TV using a series of steps adapted to the most common scenarios. So, without waiting a moment longer, carve out a few minutes of your free time to devote to reading this guide: I’m sure that, at the end of it, you will have acquired the necessary skills to achieve the goal you set for yourself. How to remove subtitles from Philips TV via system menu
If you want to figure out how to remove subtitles from your Philips TV using the menu system, this section of the tutorial is right for you. Below, in fact, I will explain to you how to act in the various scenarios you may encounter: on a non-Smart Philips TV , on a Philips Smart TV equipped with a proprietary operating system and, finally, on a Philips TV animated by Android TV .
Although the steps I am about to show you are far from difficult, I would like to warn you that, depending on the model of TV you have, the menu items or buttons on the remote control may differ slightly.
Philips non-smart TVs
As for non-Smart Philips TVs , you can turn off the subtitles in the following way: take the TV remote control, turn it on and press the Menu key .
Subsequently, select the item Features using the lower directional arrow on the remote control, press the right directional arrow to select the item Caption Settings and then choose the item Closed Caption .
Finally, to deactivate the subtitles, select the OFF item and press the OK button on the remote control. At this point, you can exit the TV settings by pressing the Menu button on the remote control again.
Note : On some remotes, you may find the Sub/Subtitles button . Press it, if present, to deactivate (or reactivate) the subtitle function.
Philips Smart TV with proprietary operating system
If you have a Philips Smart TV equipped with a proprietary operating system , you can proceed in two different but equally effective ways. To begin with, take your TV remote control and check for the Subtitle button (it should be at the bottom left).
Once you have identified the aforementioned button, press it and wait for the panel dedicated to the subtitle settings to appear on the TV screen: when this happens, select, using the directional arrows on the remote control, the item Off . subtitles/Disable Subtitles , press the OK button on the remote control and that’s it!
Alternatively, you can easily deactivate the subtitles using the channel display options: to access them, press the Options key on the remote control (identified by the cursor -shaped design ), select the Subtitles item and, after pressing the OK key on the remote control, choose the Off option. Subtitle/Disable Subtitle and press the OK button again . It was much easier than it might seem, isn’t it?
Philips Smart TV with Android TV
Finally, if you have a Philips television equipped with Android TV , you can disable the display of subtitles in this way: first, press the Home button on the remote control (the one in the shape of a house ) and, using the arrow keys, select the Settings icon (in the shape of a gear ) located at the bottom.
Having reached the Android settings screen, go to the Preferences section, then to the Accessibility and Subtitles menus and finally move the switch corresponding to the Display item to ON .
Netflix and other apps
If you’re not watching a TV show, but a show via a streaming app, then the above methods won’t work, as subtitles will need to be turned off from within the app itself.
For example, if you intend to remove the subtitles in the Netflix app for Smart TVs and you have already started playing the multimedia content, press the button in the shape of a balloon located at the top right and, from the proposed drop-down menu, select the item Deactivated corresponding to the Subtitles pane .
If, on the other hand, you have not yet started playing the title of your interest, you can adjust the viewing settings using the Audio and subtitles menu , displayed in the overlay by selecting a multimedia content to play. When you see it, press on it and choose the Deactivate item corresponding to the wording Subtitles .
How to remove subtitles from Philips TV via Teletext
If you weren’t able to remove the subtitles from your Philips TV using one of the methods I indicated above, it is very likely that, by pressing a few keys on the remote control, you have activated the appropriate service via Teletext , the historic service which, among other things, it allows you to enable subtitles for the deaf, even in English, for some entertainment products and, in many cases, also for the news.
Currently, the Teletext service is available for both Rai (Televideo) and Mediaset (Mediavideo) channels: in the first case, subtitles can be activated by visiting pages 777 (in Italian) and 778 (in English) of the service; in the second case, instead, the pages to visit are 775 for Rete 4 , 776 for Italia 1 and 777 for Canale 5 .
Therefore, if you have accidentally activated one of the Teletext or Mediavideo subtitle pages , you can easily deactivate them by going back to the Home Page of the Teletext service you are using: then take the TV remote control and type the number 100 on the numeric keypad. At this stage, you should see the number being dialed in the upper right corner of the screen.
At this point, if everything went smoothly, you should see the main page of the active Teletext service, full screen; contextually, the subtitles are immediately deactivated. Now that you’ve managed to achieve the result you set for yourself, all you have to do is deactivate Teletext by pressing the Text/Teletext button on the remote control.
If you have not been able to remove the subtitles from your Philips TV by following the instructions I have given you in this tutorial, you can try to find the solution to your problem using official Philips support .
As a first alternative, you can take a look at the FAQ section of the manufacturer’s website, where solutions to the most common problems are available: after connecting to the Philips support site , type the TV model in the appropriate field and click on the button Search by model number ; if you don’t know it, instead, click on the Search button without the model number .
Now, specify your problem (e.g. turning off subtitles ) in the text field Ask a question , located on the page that opens later, and click on the Search button , in order to display the list of official Philips help articles concerning the topic you are looking for.
Alternatively, you can contact the Philips technical staff by email , filling out the form available on this web page : specify, where required, the model of the television, the object and your specific request (relating, in this case, to the deactivation of subtitles), then enter your personal data and contact details and, when you’re done, click the Send button and wait for an operator to get back to you using the channel you specified (it may take a few days).
Finally, you can contact Philips by telephone , by calling 039 9685709 , at the cost of a local call. In this case, I advise you to keep the model of the TV in your possession on hand, which you may have to specify to the operator who will deal with your request. The Philips telephone helpline is active from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 20:00.
