How to choose the right Headphones

A pair of good headphones fill your life and your ears with cool sound both at home, on the go, and when you gamer. We will show you how to find the perfect model for your needs.

Do you have a smartphone? Then you are also guaranteed a pair of headphones. But if you settle for the earplugs that came with the phone, you are cheating yourself too much. They all have in common that they are first and foremost made to be cheap – and you deserve something better!

There are countless types, brands, and models to choose from, so it may well feel a little confusing. And if you just choose the same headphones as your friends, you may not get the cool experience you might have otherwise.

Once you have clarified what type of headphones and what features you need, you can much more easily make the right choice. And here, of course, style, design, and price also come into the picture.

ALLROUND – A HEADPHONE FOR MOST THINGS

First of all, you need to choose whether you want a headphone that covers as many needs as possible or whether you want to go all-in in a specific area like sports, audiophile hi-fi, gaming, or anything else. You can read more about these special models below.

If you are looking for all-round headphones, you can start by choosing between two things:

  • In-ear: small, cable/neckband included, medium battery life (eg Nura NuraLoop, Sennheiser IE 900, Audeze Euclid )
  • In-ear True Wireless: small, completely cable-free, short battery life (eg Jabra 85t, Sony WF-1000XM4, BW PI7, Sennheiser True Wireless 2 ).

WIRELESS OR CABLE – STILL A CHOICE

Wireless headphones give you free movement everywhere and the sound can be of a very high class. On the downside, they use battery power, both by themselves and on your phone via the Bluetooth transmitter. You should therefore be willing to charge your headphones almost as often as your phone if you do not want to risk silence in the ear canal. However, many wireless headphones (on-ear / over-ear) also have a cable connection, so you have a Plan B in the back of your hand.

Arguments for choosing wired headphones can be:

  • You constantly forget to charge your wireless headphones so they die at the most annoying times.
  • You want a solution that is as simple, stable, and economical as possible.
  • You want to save power on your phone, e.g. if you are on the go for a long time.
  • You go for uncompromising audiophile sound quality, possibly. in combination with a separate headphone amplifier.

NOISE-CANCELING / ANC – CHOKE THE NOISE FROM YOUR SURROUNDINGS

A number of wireless headphones – especially over-ear models – have active electronic noise reduction (Noise Canceling / ANC), which reduces the noise from your surroundings so you can concentrate on the music. It’s really nice, especially when you travel by train, bus, or plane, and where you otherwise sit bathed in engine noise and baby howls.

ANC has no noticeable side effects other than eating a little power, and it is an extremely useful conquest that can enhance both your music experience and your relaxation.

In the HiFi Club, you can choose from many cool and test-winning ANC headphones, for example, Denon AH-GC30, B&W PX7, Sony WH-1000XM3, and Beoplay H9i. Here you get some of the best on the market, both in terms of technology, design, and finish.

BATTERY AND PLAYING TIME – HOW LONG CAN I PLAY MUSIC?

All wireless headphones must be charged at intervals. Wireless in-ear models – especially the fully wireless True Wireless types – can have a battery life of up to 3 hours, while the over-ear and on-ear models can reach up to 30 hours or more.

If playing time means a lot to your daily experience, it’s well worth checking out before choosing your wireless headphone.

COMPLY FOAM PLUGS – BETTER SOUND AND BETTER COMFORT FOR LITTLE MONEY

The vast majority of today’s in-ear headphones come with small silicone or rubber earpieces that you push directly into your ear canal. It is very important that these earpieces fit snugly, otherwise, you will never get proper bass.

The smart Comply foam plugs are made of memory foam, so they expand in your ear canal and provide a perfect fit. This means optimal sound quality and optimal comfort when listening to your in-ear headphones. The improvement can be drastic compared to the standard earpieces, so you almost owe it to yourself to try this little extra accessory.

SPECIAL HEADPHONES

Not all tasks can be done with a Swiss Army knife or a handyman. Sometimes a specialist is needed who is super sharp in his own field. This also applies to headphones, where very special needs require a very special solution. With the benefits and limitations that it brings.
