What causes vertical colored lines on a TV screen?
When a TV shows vertical colored lines, a loose cable in the TV may be the cause. If you tap the back of the TV, the vertical colored lines MAY disappear temporarily. This is a sign that a cable is loose or that the T-Con card is defective.
What should you do when your TV has colored vertical lines?
If you experience a TV showing colored vertical lines, try tapping gently on different areas on the back of the TV, you can see if the vertical colored lines disappear completely or decrease in intensity. If you see that this affects you, you can simply have a loose cable. This is not a permanent solution but can prevent the vertical colored lines from being there temporarily. To fix this permanently, you need to troubleshoot the problem and find out which cable is loose, defective, or damaged.
What can you do to fix vertical colored lines on a TV?
If you suspect a loose cable in your TV, open the TV and secure the cable, and check the T-Con card. NOTE! There are instructions on Youtube that explain how to do this safely and without damaging your TV.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE – Before disassembling your TV, turn it off, unplug the TV and wait a few hours for the power of the TV to be discharged to avoid shock.
If you do not find any loose cables in your TV, the T-Con card is probably faulty. How to remove and replace your TV T-Con card
- Write down the TV label
- Write down the model number of the TV model
- And write down the TV series
- Unscrew the back of the TV
- Locate the screws on the back or side of the TV panel (usually 8 to 10 screws)
- Find the T-Con card The card may be hidden under the cover (the T-Con is usually located at the top of the TV’s upper center position)
- The T-Con card is connected to the motherboard (LVDS cable) and the LCD panel (flat ribbon cables)
- Disconnect the cables connected to the T-Con card
(Be careful when removing cables as they are sensitive and can be easily damaged – Do not use tools to pry cable connections) - Remove the screws or nuts from the T-Con card to remove it from the TV
- Find the barcode on the T-Con card
- The first long alphanumeric code is the part number of the T-Con card
- Write down the article number on the T-Con card
- Go to Google and enter “T-Con card for _ TV, model number ___ “

- Insert the new T-Con card where it was previously connected
- Secure it with the supplied screws or nuts or with the old T-Con screws
- Connect the T-Con card cables (LVDS and ribbon cables)

- Replace the rear panel of the TV
- Secure it with the screws
- Turn on the TV and the colored vertical lines are gone
